Interviews – What to do and say

Interviews…just the word is enough to make some people cringe, but as daunting and overwhelming as an interview can be, they are the key to getting that dream job that you want!

Not everyone is granted an interview, so to get a phone call to say that you have been selected for an interview, is a pretty special moment. Sometimes you are up against well over 100 people for a role, so to be chosen out of this many people is quite an achievement in itself. But don’t let the moment of excitement take over! Many people think that because they have been chosen for an interview, that is it and that they don’t need to do anything else – wrong!

You need to be prepared for the interview and know what to say. Research is the best thing you can do when it comes to interviews. Knowing about the company that you are potentially to be employed by, is a big thing. You have to know who they are, what they do and what their missions and objectives are, and how you can help. Going to an interview without doing your research…you may as well not go!

Interact and engage with the person or panel whom are interviewing you. Be sure to answer the questions they have asked (not dodge around them), be honest in your answers, be prepared to tell them both your strengths and weaknesses, and make jokes (but don’t go over the top).

The final thing to remember is to be yourself – don’t pretend to be someone you are not. Answer all questions truthfully. Therefore, don’t just say what you think you want them to hear.

With all of the above in mind, you are set. So go get ’em!
